Vietnam War

NVA/ Viet Kong

Over the course of the Vietnam war, or “The American War” as it is referred to as in Vietnam, the goal of North Vietnam was to reunite Vietnam under one government. They would ultimately prove successful in their desired goal but maintaining a healthy government post war would prove far more challenging than anyone could have imagined. This folder is dedicated to militaria specifically relating to the North Vietnamese regular army, NVA, or their guerilla fighting units collectively referred to as the Viet Kong. These range from a NVA Dien Bien Phu service badge to a Girls Youth Shock Brigade badge.

Medal Name: Quyet Thang “Gun Metal” Award

Vietnam War NVA/ Viet Kong

Date: 1967-1971

Country of Origin: People's Republic of North Vietnam

Note: Medals like this one were given to members of both the North Vietnamese Army (NVA), and the Viet Cong (VC) for prolonged service from home without breaks, usually a year or more. This medal is called the “Gunmetal” award because of the salvaged gunmetal recovered from American equipment left in the field that was used to make it.
